AFTER 51 YEARS, THE DOJO WILL BE CLOSING

Hanshi Bob Herten began this business on August 31st 1969. 51 years of blood , sweat, tears, and major sacrifices to take something he was passionate about and turn it into his family's business, but more importantly, a family, a #dojofamily. He has taught students, then their children, and even their grandchildren. He has surpassed any and all expectations that anyone had for a Martial Arts studio. Hugely successful in the mid 80’s and 90’s with over 400 students at one time. Running successful training Seminars in the summers with over hundreds of students from all types of dojo’s all for the love of Martial Arts. He gave so many of the dojos in the area their start - because they trained under him and opened up their own dojos. We were hoping to carry on that legacy, and honor his memory by getting the dojo going again now that we are permitted to return to the gym safely, but without enough commitment from returning students, sadly we cannot.

So as much as it pains us, we will not be reopening. We want to thank all of the students past and present who have come in and out of our lives for 51 years. Some we call family - you will be family forever. We gave it our best effort but it was just time. Good Luck to everyone, and as Dad would say, “last one out, lock up.” Okay Dad, we're locking up...

Thank you for 51 years,

Karate (空手)is a martial art developed in the in what is now Okinawa, Japan. It was developed from indigenous fighting methods called te (手, literally "hand"; tii in Okinawan) and Chinese kenpō. Karate is a striking art using punching, kicking, knee and elbow strikes, and open-handed techniques such as knife-hands. Grappling, locks, restraints, throws, and vital point strikes are taught in some styles. A karate student is called a karateka (空手家).
